A Week for Support, Inspiration, Peace & Health
October 19 - 25, 2008
A week to practice different strategies to overcome indifference to the plight of over 54 million Americans who endure bullying at work on a routine basis. All of us can change. We must conjure an empathic sense of compassion for those among us who suffer for no reason they caused. We must stop blaming Targets and start believing.
Watch this space for announcements about scheduled Freedom Week events. If you have an event during Oct. 19-25 to raise awareness about Workplace Bullying, contact us so we can post your announcement (WBI: 360-656-6630)
Here's a To Do List for the week.
Bullied Workers
-
make the business case to execs that the bully is too
expensive to keep; ask others for needed support;
put your health first; demand respect; restore dignity
Spouses, Partners and Friends
-
believe Targets in your life; remind them about their pre-bullying selves; offer unequivocal support
Employers
-
be skeptical about beloved, agressive managers;
create & faithfully enforce specific anti-bullying policies; protect your bottom line -- purge hyper-aggressive assholes instead of laughing with them
Mental Health Professionals
-
understand work trauma; believe bullied clients; study the research
Co-Workers and Unions
-
stand against abuse of members regardless of the
source; encourage employers' policies; bargain for anti-bullying contract terms
School Administrators
-
protect certificated and classified staff from bullying as you now protect students
Legislators
-
listen to constituents' tales of bullying; sponsor the anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill, challenge myths promulgated by fear-inducing business lobbyists
